Fire Chimney
is in coal fire chimneys a breeding place for pigeons?
because i can hear them first thing in the mornings inside the chimney somewhere. The coal fire place has been modernised with a gas-fire years ago.
i dont want to disturb them btw
Yes, unless you have a wire or pottery cover over the top of your chimney pot, several sorts of birds will think it’s a great place to nest. Pigeons nest later in the year than other birds, ie now, when there’s so much food about in the fields. You really should get someone in to evict them because a baby pigeon may fall down the flue and get trapped behind the gas fire, and in any case, once the fire is on regularly they’ll get cooked or asphyxiated by the heat and fumes. It will be a continual problem to you in the future if you don’t get it fixed. Get a builder to remove the nest and install a special top to the chimney which will allow ventilation to the flue but prevent birds entering. Don’t worry about disturbing the nest, they’ll soon find somewhere else and pigeons are a really common species anyway.
